A World Together
(a reflection on the pandemic sweeping the world)

Who would have thought that we could come
together in this way?
Who would have thought that this could
make all people stop & pray?
Who could predict that we would all be safer
in our homes?
Who could have seen the sorrow and the ache
of feeling alone?
It’s such a strange and difficult time, a
time of loss and gain,
A time when people fear and hope, a time
of joy and pain.
A person dies, the family has to
abbreviate their plans,
Folks are struggling with their grief, no
hugs or soothing hands.
We all have time to think about our life
and what comes next,
How will our world look after, what are
the last effects?
We are in this thing together, for better
or for worse,
We might as well then grasp the truth of
our finite universe.
We are connected in so many ways, this
virus it has shown,
That the very air we breathe today, it’s
not just ours alone.
Our money, talents, time, and work, they
are part of a bigger scene,
Than we really want to recognize, that we’d
rather have unseen.
We want our world to stay so small, just
us and those we love,
And maybe just a few more folks, but not
many not of blood.
But this whole world belongs to God, He
owns it, lock and key,
It’s not our choice that matters here, it’s
HIS to have, you see.
And maybe this is just His way, to set us
on our heels,
Like Babel was, so long ago, so man would
then appeal
to a sovereign God for mercy, for Grace,
and Charity,
For we think too much of our intellect
and our human dignity.
I’m just a man who’s hoping to make sense
of what I see today,
I may be wrong, and probably am, but I
guess I’m wired that way.
There has to be a reason, a purpose to it
all,
And I prefer to think it’s more than just
a fatal random call.
Our World has come together like no time
I can recall,
I think that we may see some good come to
our spinning ball,
If people keep on seeking out the Lord,
our God and king,
Then we may see His Spirit sweep across
the land and bring…..
